Two Customs Officers Sentenced to Jail

Two Customs and Excise Department officers were sentenced to 10 months' jail and fined RM100,000 each for charges of corruption. Superintendent Baljeet Singh, aged 42, was found guilty with soliciting, agreeing to accept and accepting RM10,000 as an inducement from nightclub owner Chian Boon Chong to not take action against him.

The offence under the Service Tax Act 1975 was committed at the Hotel Value Inn in Klang at 6pm on 17 June 1999.

Assistant Superintendent Low Seck Sin, aged 49, was charged with soliciting the money from Chian at the same time and place.

The Sessions judge granted the stay of execution and allowed bail at RM15,000 for Baljeet and RM5,000 for Low in one surety.
