Police have arrested two men, aged 22 and 44, for allegedly impersonating policemen and extorting money from unlicensed businesses and illegal immigrants in Kapar. They were caught red-handed while they were extorting money from a metal trader on Saturday evening.
Several weeks ago, four men, one of them in a chief inspector's uniform, tried to extort money from an unlicensed used goods trader. They offered the operator a police permit for a fee. The permit was given to the operator the next day but was found by police to be fake during a routine police operation last week.
The suspects are believed to be part of a group which has been active over the last few months. The men had in their car two sets of police uniforms, a handcuff, two police passes with their photos, and two knives.
The 44-year-old suspect has an ongoing trial for theft at the Kuala Kubu Magistrate court.
The suspects have been remanded for five days to aid police investigations.
