Three police officers were re-charged in a Sessions court for soliciting a RM300 bribe in 2004 after the witness in the case was found in Kajang prison. The officers were acquitted of the crime in September 2006 because there was no witness from the prosecution.
L/Kpl Sahardin Nalam, 51, L/Kpl Noor Azman Ali, 40 and Kons Sharol Ixuan Salleh (sic), 24, who were attached at the Endau police station, were charged for soliciting the bribe from a former settler Che Ali Jusoh on 2 February 2004 at around 12pm in Pekan Endau. It was to hide the fact that Che Ali did not have a driving license and was found with a tube of straw allegedly containing heroin.
The judge fixed bail at RM3,000 each.
They were charged under Section 10 (a) (bb) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 (Act 575) for corruptly soliciting gratification and read together with Section 24 of the Penal Code (Act 574) for dishonestly causing wrongful gain to one person and wrongful loss to another person.
L/Kpl Noor Azman was also charged for accepting a RM300 bribe from Che Ali at about 2:05pm on the same day, allegedly in relation to the same case. The charge was under Section 11 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 for accepting gratification.
Bail was fixed at RM3,000 bail for the second charge.
Both cases were fixed for trial on 11 April 2007.
