Man Murdered Own Children Before Committing Suicide

15 February 2007
Kuala Lumpur

An accountant who worked at a unit trust company, has allegedly strangled his two children to death and committed suicide by drinking a mixture of bleach and floor cleaner. Lee Tiang Siang, aged 39, had locked himself and his children, Lee Mei Shen, aged 9, and Lee Wei Shen, aged 7, in their Villa Angsana condominium off Jalan Ipoh.

Lee's wife, an insurance agent, had found their bodies at about 7:30pm after she had returned from their neightbour's residence after a quarrel with Lee. As the front door was locked, she got the help of security guards and firemen from the Fire and Rescue Department to break it down. She found the children's bodies in the master bedroom, believed to have been strangled to death with plastic bags. Lee was found in the bathroom with a handwritten note and bottles of bleach and floor cleaner solution.

Neighbours who were interviewed said that they saw loan sharks visiting Lee's condo unit at 5:30pm but were not allowed in. An argument between the couple followed after Lee's wife came home and found scratch marks on their car.

Police said that there were no visible marks on the bodies and the case had been classified as sudden death until they receive results of the post-mortems from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
