The narcotics team were on the lookout for a suspected drug pusher around the Sinsuran commercial complex at 3pm. The 49-year-old man was in a grey car when police gave chase.
The chase ended when police cornered the man at the central market at 5:15pm. Just before he was apprehended, the man had reached for a Browning semi-automatic pistol with eight bullets. Police found on him the pistol and four packets of crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing about 178g, worth RM40,000.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the drugs and the case had been classified under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 8 of the Firearms Act.
