Police Shot Suspects in Car Chase

25 February 2007
Kuching

Two policemen in a patrol car spotted three men in a Proton Waja behaving suspiciously in Semuja at 6:15pm on Friday. When the police ordered the driver to stop, the car sped off. Even though the police fired several warning shots, the driver did not stop.

The car led the police patrol car on a high speed chase for 55km until the suspects' car crashed at Pantu, Sri Aman, when the policemen shot one of the tyres. The suspects were not armed but investigations are ongoing to determine what happened before the police opened fire.

Two of the suspects were seriously injured with gunshot wounds and have been warded at the Sarawak Hospital.

The car was reported stolen in Kuching last week.
