Body with Stab Wounds Found Buried in Vegetable Plot

Police, acting on a tip-off, found a man's body buried 1.2m deep in a vegetable plot in Simpang Pulai on Sunday 3:50pm. The body was covered with at least 19 stab wounds and had only a pair of jeans.

The vegetable plot is about one kilometre away from the fourth kilometre of the Simpang Pulai-Kampung Raja road.

It is believed that this is a case of murder as police found blood in the vicinity. Police described the man between 25 and 30 years old, with a fair complexion and about 1.68 metres tall. No weapons were found at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Bag Snatched from Car Pumping Petrol

A 28-year-old marketing executive was pumping petrol at a station along Jalan Mesjid Nergi on Friday 11am when a motorcyclist passed her and snatched her handbag.

The victim had withdrawn RM10,000 from a bank and was meant for red packets during the Chinese New Year. The motorcyclist rode to the passenger side of her car, opened the door and grabbed the handbag with the money.

Girl Raped After First Date

A 15-year-old girl from Tanjong Piandang, Perak was raped a few hours after befriending a youth who called her on the mobile phone initially.

The girl allegedly went for a date with the suspect and was taken a stall to meet the suspect's five friends. The five friends then took her to a house at a rubber estate at Kampong Besar at 2am on Sunday.

One of the friends then raped her while the rest of the group molested her.

School Headmaster Charged with Outrage of Modesty

Malkan Mahmood, aged 49, from Kota Kubang, Tumpat, has been charged in court with seven counts of outraging the modesty of four teachers in a primary school between March 2005 and July 2006. He was the headmaster there and had comitted the offences on teachers aged between 25 and 30.

Malkan pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Each offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, a fine or caning.

The magistrate granted bail at RM2,500 each set of offences and fixed 14, 15, 21, and 22 May 2007 for trial.

Man Lost Arm in Sword Attack

Syamsuddin Shafie, aged 54, lost his left hand and three fingers of his right hand after he was attacked in front of a coffeeshop in Kampung Belat, Kubur Panjang, on Sunday 8pm. The timber factory supervisor was also injured on his shoulder and received 20 stitches.

The victim was having a drink when a man in his 30s gestured to him. The victim's wife, Siti Fatimah Kadir, aged 53, and the coffeeshop owner were present at the coffeeshop.

When Syamsuddin approached him, he attacked him with a 60cm long sword. The suspect intended to give chase when Syamsuddin ran but backed off upon seeing the two at the coffeeshop.

Syamsuddin was brought to the Alor Star Hospital where he was warded.

Siti said the suspect was married to Syamsuddin’s cousin previously but said she did not know the cause of the attack. She also claimed that RM5,000 was missing from Syamsuddin's pocket, which was meant to pay for a car loan.

Man Caught for Illegal Electricity Tapping

A foreigner has been arrested for power theft after investigations by the East Coast/Sandakan Sabah Electricity Board (SESB) revealed that the man had been illegally tapping the eletricity line and distributed power to a colony of 20 squatter houses for a fee.

There were two of them who managed to cut the insulation layer of the 415V cable and hook a live wire connected to a distribution point in one of the houses. The other escaped when a raid was conducted at the main SESB office in Batu Sapi on Friday night.

Girl Offered Friend to Settle Debts

A school dropout, aged 17, allegedly offered his best friend to several men as payment for her debts. The girl asked her 17-year-old friend to follow her to a car park where the victim was told her brother was assaulted.

When she reached there, four men in a car grabbed her and tied her hands. She was driven to a house in Larkin where the men took turns to rape her. She was then returned to her home.

The victim made a police report later and five men, aged between 15 and 28, were arrested by police. One of them is believed to be a 26-year-old adopted son of a Tunku.

Policemen Impersonators Arrested for Extortion

Police have arrested two men, aged 22 and 44, for allegedly impersonating policemen and extorting money from unlicensed businesses and illegal immigrants in Kapar. They were caught red-handed while they were extorting money from a metal trader on Saturday evening.

Several weeks ago, four men, one of them in a chief inspector's uniform, tried to extort money from an unlicensed used goods trader. They offered the operator a police permit for a fee. The permit was given to the operator the next day but was found by police to be fake during a routine police operation last week.

The suspects are believed to be part of a group which has been active over the last few months. The men had in their car two sets of police uniforms, a handcuff, two police passes with their photos, and two knives.

The 44-year-old suspect has an ongoing trial for theft at the Kuala Kubu Magistrate court.

The suspects have been remanded for five days to aid police investigations.

Businesswoman Cheated of RM90,000 by Fake Datuk

A 45-year-old businesswoman was offered a Mercedes Benz E-Class 2004 car and club membership from a 40-year-old man posing as a Datuk. She was conned of RM90,000 in total.

The victim, from Pengerang, Kota Tinggi, went to the suspect's house on 16 January 2007 after she was told by the suspect that the discounted car was from an auction by the Customs Department. She was also briefed on the privileges of the exclusive club membership which might bring her more business opportunities.

The businesswoman deposited RM15,000 and RM60,000 into the suspect's bank account as the suspect told her that the car and club membership would be delivered to her within ten days from the date of her payments.

A few days later, the suspect told her that the car was not in a good condition and offered her a 2006 model for an additional RM15,000, which she paid promptly.

The suspect was arrested at his house at Taman Perling on Friday night and will be remanded for one week to aid investigations. The case is classified under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Robbery of Two Men on Bus Unnoticed

A shop assistant and his friend were on board a bus heading towards Machang from Pasir Puteh at 3:30pm on Thursday. Three men boarded the bus later and sat next to the duo. The men then took out knives and demanded money from the victims, aged 18 and 21. As they did not have any money, they gave the three robbers their mobile phones.

Apparently the other passengers and the bus driver chose not to or did not notice the robbery.

The robbers calmly alighted at Kampung Sering.

Three youths aged between 17 and 20 years have been detained by the police after the victims lodged reports the next day.

Crash-and-Rob Gang Nabbed in Perak

A gang of crash-and-rob robbers active in Perak and Selangor have been arrested by police. Police have been on their trail since last August who have been involved in more than 20 cases.

The robbers, aged between 20 and 30 years, would crash their car into a victim's car to create an accident. When the driver alight from his car to inspect the damage, this was when the gang, armed with choppers or parangs, would rob the driver of cash and valuables.

Seven robbers were in two cars looking around for victims when two police teams from Perak nabbed them near Hutan Melintang. The police were led to a house in Puchong where three more were arrested.

They are believed to have been high on drugs when they rob, sometimes slashing the victims unprovoked. They usually targeted cars such as Toyota Vios, Toyota Altis, Mitsubishi Storm, Toyota Hilux, and Proton Perdana.

Police are still looking for five other members of the gang.

Two Men Accuse Police Officer of Assault

M. Marimuthu, aged 32, and R. Mohanasundram, aged 26, claimed that a police officer from Port Dickson demanded RM450 from them, failing which he would find ways to arrest them again. They were out on bail and are waiting sentencing for charges of theft.

Mohanasundram was called in to the district headquarters on Thursday where he was punched in the face when he told the officer that he did not bring the money.

Marimuthu's sister Vikneswary, aged 32, had to pawn her jewellery before giving it to the officer at the magistrate court on Friday at 4pm. Marimuthu said the officer demanded a few hundred more ringgit, allegedly to cover the rental cost of the car that the two men were using on the day that they were arrested.

The three then sat on a bench when the officer returned and kicked Marimuthu's leg.

The men, both jobless, lodged reports at the Seremban police station on Friday, accusing the police officer of assault.

Police Shot Suspects in Car Chase

Two policemen in a patrol car spotted three men in a Proton Waja behaving suspiciously in Semuja at 6:15pm on Friday. When the police ordered the driver to stop, the car sped off. Even though the police fired several warning shots, the driver did not stop.

The car led the police patrol car on a high speed chase for 55km until the suspects' car crashed at Pantu, Sri Aman, when the policemen shot one of the tyres. The suspects were not armed but investigations are ongoing to determine what happened before the police opened fire.

Two of the suspects were seriously injured with gunshot wounds and have been warded at the Sarawak Hospital.

The car was reported stolen in Kuching last week.

Alleged Robbery Gang Leader Rearrested

Wong Chin Hee, allegedly the head of the M16 Gang that was involved in a few goldsmith shop robberies since 2000, was rearrested after he was freed by a High Court after his habeas corpus application was successful.

Wong, aged 43, has been detained at the Simpang Renggam detention centre since February 2004 and faces eight charges of armed robbery. He is believed to have taken over leadership after Sum Wing Chai @ Sunny Chai was shot dead by police in 2002.

Lim Siong, aged 55, was also freed and rearrested with Wong. He has been detained for a kidnapping case in Banting last year.

Eleven Illegal Immigrants Caught in One Car

11 Myanmar illegal immigrants were packed into a Proton Satria in a 450km journey from Kangar. Two policemen at the junction of Jalan Tun Perak and Jalan Raja Laut at 9:40am tried to stop the suspicious car as the windows were tinted and the car was driven erratically.

The car slowed down then sped away as the policemen approached it. The policemen, including more in seven other patrol cars, joined in a high speed chase that started at Jalan Tun Perak. Ten minutes later, the driver lost control of the car and rammed into a gate of an abandoned building along Jalan Ipoh Kecil at Sentul.

The driver, a grocery shop assistant and security guard from Perlis, tried to run away on foot but was caught by a policeman.

The illegals, aged between 14 and 42, did not have travel documents with them. They have been remanded at the Immigration Department.

The car had a false registration number plate and a false road tax disc.

The driver faces up to five years' jail, six strokes of the cane, and a fine between RM10,000 and RM50,000 for each immigrant that he held.

Fishmonger Sentenced to Jail for Sodomising Boy

Faizul Yusuf, aged 28, has been sentenced to 8 years' jail and 4 strokes of the rotan (cane) for sodomising a 10-year-old boy and forcing him to perform lewd acts. The fishmonger was charged with sodomy that was committed in his van along Jalan Saga 10, Taman Saga, Ampang at 10am on 2 October 2000 and again the next day.

He also faced a third charge of forcing the boy to perform lewd acts in his van along Jalan Saga 7, Taman Sagar, Ampang, at 8am on 2 October 2000.

Yusuf pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Woman Charged for Abandoning Baby

Nor Azura Basri, aged 20, has been charged in court for abandoning her baby in a drain behind a house at Jalan LLN on 13 February 2007. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The baby was found by a security guard. The umbilical cord was still intact on the baby and was only hurt by ant bites. The baby has been placed under the care of the Welfare Department.

Nor Azura has been granted bail at RM2,500 with one surety and the case has been set for mention on 6 April 2007.

Six on Trial for Possession of Pirated DVDs

Six people who worked at a video shop have claimed trial to possession of 226 pirated DVDs worth about RM12,000. The offence was allegedly committed by the shop supervisor, counter worker, cashier, and three assistants at the shop at 10:30pm on 16 February 2007.

The Sessions Court judge granted three of them bail of RM8,000 in one surety each and the other three, who were Indonesian nationals, bail of RM10,000 each.

The case has been set for mention on 9 April 2007.

Illegal Immigrant Found with Seven Fake Work Permits

Bozlur Rahman, aged 30, was arrested by Rela members during Ops Tegas in Manjung on 25 January 2007 and found with 7 fake work permits in his passport. He was charged on 7 February 2007 with possession of forged documents and has been sentenced to 18 months' jail by the Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Bozlur had been in the country for more than five years. He did not offered himself up during the amnesty programme in 2005 where illegal immigrants are deported back to their home countries.

Father Charged with Murder of Two Year Old Son

Murthy Muthu, aged 29, has been charged in court yesterday for the murder of his 2-year-old son, Ruthren, at their home along Jalan Sungai Pinang, Klang, at 4:15pm on 20 January 2007.

Ruthren's decomposed body was found off the coast of Teluk Intan on 1 February 2007, stuffed in a travel bag. The body was found by fishermen in a fishing net along the Straits of Malacca near Pulau Sembilan.

The court approved for the case to be heard at the High Court and set 23 March 2007 for mention.

BMW Sports Car Smuggled, Duties Unpaid

The Customs Department seized a BMW M3 Coupe on 16 January 2007 which is believed to be smuggled from Kalimantan. It is valued at half a million ringgit but duties of RM318,068.36 have not been paid.

The department said that the car was not registered with the Road Transport Department and is looking for the car's owner. Information supporting the department's investigations can be paid up to 30 per cent of the value of the smuggled goods.

Gang Attacked Three by Mistake of Identity

A group of 20 men are believed to have mistaken the identity of a man and attacked him and his two friends in Pekan Melayu yesterday. The men were armed with a samurai sword, sticks and helmets.

It is learnt that one of the men earlier had an argument with a motorist near a restaurant. He called on his friends and went looking for the motorist. They assaulted the three men and caused a slash on the mistaken man's head. They also smashed the windscreens of three cars before taking off on motorcycles.

Police recovered the weapons near the scene. The victim came in from Singapore to celebrate Chinese New Year and apparently was driving a car with the same model and body colour. He has received 10 stitches and is warded at the Alor Star Hospital.

Chinese Medium Tricked Woman of Cash and Sex

A 40-year-old woman, who is identified only as Chang, was conned of more than RM15,000 cash and into having sex with a Chinese medium in his 50s.

Chan had been meeting the medium in a temple in Cheras often while she was working as a tuition teacher in Ampang. Initially she helped in cleaning chores and also donated money to the temple for maintenance.

During the Chinese New Year in 2003, the medium asked Chang to have sex with him. He said that he wanted to expel bad aura from her body and retain good energy in its place.

Chang's mother had an accident in 2005 and that was when the medium told Chang that she was cursed because of the accident. Chang soon after lodged a report against the medium.

Bank Account Books and ATM Cards Seized from Syndicate

Police have seized about 636 savings account books and 188 ATM cards from an illegal loan shark syndicate's house last week. The house along Lorong Batu Nilam, Bukit Tinggi, had such items with details of customers who were mostly factory and low-income workers.

It is believed that the syndicate has collected more than RM300,000 in the past six months from these victims who were from Puchong, Shah Alam, Klang and Subang Jaya. The debt collectors would withdraw all the money from the lenders' bank accounts, take their commission and return the remainder to the lender.

The case is being investigated under the Moneylenders Act. No arrests have been made but statements have been taken from the seven people found during the raid. The suspects can be jailed up to five years and fined up to a maximum of RM100,000, or both.

Lorry Driver Wanted Second Wife, Mother Takes Sons' Lives

Azizan Said, aged 46, a close friend and colleague of the lorry driver whose two sons were allegedly murdered, said that the man had told him about his intentions to take a second wife. Azizan had advised him against it but the man told his wife, now the main murder suspect, about it.

Azizan believes that the second woman is from Sungai Nibong.

Neighbours described the 30-year-old wife as "quiet and harmless", but police suspect that she had used the cord of an electric iron to stangle her two sons to death.

On Monday early morning, the wife brought neighbour Manisah Nasir, aged 35, to see the bodies of the children in their bedroom. Manisah then covered the bodies with a cloth and told her husband. The lorry driver father was sleeping in another room.

Policeman's Son Involved in Fight Leading to One Dead

A 23-year-old man, whose father is believed to be a Special Branch officer, was allegedly involved in a fight on Sunday 3am. He and three others were drinking at the 24-hour restaurant along Jalan Walter Grenier, Bukit Bintang.

The fight started between a marketing executive in his 20s and the suspected man, exchanging punches. This led to the suspect getting a knife from the kitchen and the marketing executive getting a baseball bat from his car. The suspect allegedly stabbed the executive a few times with the knife and left the restaurant with the three friends.

An argument had started between them some hours before the fight.

The victim was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital where he died from the stab wounds.

Police have arrested the suspect in his Gombak home and the three friends are wanted.

Elderly Man Found Dead Along Street

An elderly man in his 70s has been found dead along a street near Wisma Hainan on Tuesday 7am. Only known as Bok Yong, the man had no immediate family members and had stopped working at a Chinese coffeeshop after some health problems.

He was given free accommodation by the Kelantan Chinese Restaurants Association.

Police are waiting for the post-mortem result from the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and suspects suicide.

Elderly Woman Died After Encounter with Snatch Thief

An elderly couple had travelled from Rasah, Seremban, on Sunday to Taman Telok Pulai on Sunday to celebrate Chinese New Year with relatives. Gan Say Hoe, aged 75, had dropped his wife, Sim Ah Guat, aged 71, near their relative's house before driving off to the car park.

A snatch thief had attacked Sim and escaped with her handbag. When Gan returned a few minutes later, he found Sim lying on the floor unconscious.

Sim was taken to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her body has been moved to Rasah for her funeral.

5-year-old Muhammad Alis Haqumi Idris and 18-months-old Muhammad Alis Hazmi Idris were found dead lying in bed and with their tied hands at their flat in Taman Indah, Batu Maung yesterday morning by police.

Post-mortem results showed that the boys had been strangled. Some suspect they were strangled with the cord of an iron.

The incident happened after the parents had quarelled and police have remanded both of them.

On Sunday night, the 30-year-old wife had sent an SMS to the husband, a 28-year-old lorry driver, to ask him to return home. He reportedly had intentions of having a second wife. When the husband returned home at 11:40pm, he went to bed after seeing that the two boys were already laying in bed.

Police had to wake him up at 7am to find that the boys were already dead.

The police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code as murder and the couple will remain in police custody until 1 March 2007.

Home-made Bomb Exploded Under Car

A bomb was placed under a car near a bank in Mentakab and detonated remotely on Chinese New Year eve at 9:30pm. Factory worker Mohd Radi Daud was approaching the car with his wife after shopping at a supermarket.

Police believe the bomb was made by someone with knowledge of explosive devices. The bomb contained gunpowder derived from shotgun cartridges and stuffed into a metal pipe.

49-year-old Mohd Radi sustained severe leg injuries and has been warded at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital under police protection. His wife was not hurt.

Three Men Robbed Jewellery Shop With Sticks

Three men in their 20s covered their faces with ski masks and armed with sticks attempted to rob a jewellery shop in Bidor town yesterday at about 2:50pm.

They entered the shop and tried to smash a display cabinet glass but it only cracked slightly. When shop staff and customers started to raise the alarm, the gang ran away in a silver-gold Proton Waja.

One of the customers had thrown a stone at the car, causing a dent on it.

Police are now searching for the men.

Three Thais and a Local Charged for Subang Parade Jewellery Shop Robbery

Three Thai nationals and a Malaysian have been charged with possession of firearms and ammunition. They have been accused to be involved in the Subang Parade Poh Kong jewellery heist on 3 February 2007.

Under the Internal Security Act 1960, the four face the death penalty if convicted.

Songsil Udtoom, aged 37, his brother Jukkis Udtoom, aged 40, Malaysian Loo Yeong Guang, aged 30, and his Thai girlfriend Phailin Noochangphueak, aged 26, were charged with the possession of two Colt pistols, a AR 15 rifle, a Remmington Rand pistol, a Sig Sauer pistol and a Glock pistol in a Pyramid Tower Hotel room in Bandar Sunway at 3:45am on 4 February 2007.

They also face a second charge of possessing 336 bullets at the same location.

Their case has been referred to the Shah Alam High Court and has been set for mention there on 9 March 2007.

Drug Dealer Caught But Was Violent

Police laid an ambush on two men who were waiting in Gohtong Jaya near Bentong with drugs on Sunday at 11:30pm. The 37-year-old man tried to escape in a car but police fired shots and punctured his car tyre.

After the man's car skidded, he continued to be violent as he was being cuffed by police.

Authorities seized syabu drug worth RM100,000. They have also frozen three bank accounts of the men, totalling RM238,600.

RM3.5 Million Cargo Truck Robbed by Five

Five men armed with parangs stopped a container truck with two cars along Jalan Majidee at 10pm a few days ago. The truck was carrying RM3.5 million worth of mobile phones from a Pasir Gudang factory, headed for Singapore.

The men forced the driver of the truck out and tied him up. He was then taken in one of the cars to the Senai area.

The driver has been detained to aid investigations. Police suspect the men are Indonesians and are searching for the truck.

Man's Body Found in Concrete Hole

A lorry driver found the body of a Chinese man dumped in a concrete hole in Gelang Patah on Wednesday. The man's face and mouth were covered with masking tape and his hands were tied. The body had some burn marks as well.

Police said that the man had been dead for at least three days, who was found in Taman Nusa Indah, Kiara Hills.

Five Men Robbed Metal Plates in Lorry

Five men armed with parangs had robbed a lorry loaded with metal plates at Taman Universiti at about 1am yesterday. The metal places were worth RM200,000.

The gang had tied and blindfolded the driver of the lorry and drove off in their car. The lorry was driven by one of them.

After four hours of driving, the lorry driver was thrown out along Jalan Pontian near the Pulai Spring Resort.

The driver later lodged a report at the Skudai police station. Police are looking for the robbers.

RM800,000 Worth of Drugs Found on Two Men

Two Indian nationals arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on seperate flights from Chennai on Wednesday morning. Customs officers found a total of RM800,000 worth of ketamine on them.

The first man, a 34-year-old, was arrested at 11:30am with 15kg of ketamine in 40 boxes in a bag. He was flying in from Singapore.

The second man, a 27-year-old, came in from Bangkok and was found with 27 single-kilogram packets of ketamine in two bags.

The packets were apparently labelled under a brand name "Pratikar", a top quality detergent found in India. The local market rate of the drug is between RM18,000 and RM20,000 per kilogram.

In both cases, there were no clothes in their bags at all.

Police believe they may be related and are investigating the cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act. If found guilty, the men face the death penalty.

Three Men Held by Police, Related to Sisters' Death

Three men have been remanded by police until Saturday in relation to the death of sisters Tan Sook Mun and Tan Sook Yin on 13 January 2007.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, from Penang and Kuala Lumpur respectively, were arrested last Saturday while the third man, aged 20, from Ipoh was arrested on Monday.

Man Acquitted of Killing Father

Zahaminto Anjang, aged 24, has been acquitted of a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the Sessions Court yesterday. On 2 March 2002, Zahaminto had used a piece of wood to hit his father, Anjang Ngah Sait, aged 40, on the head. The father died the next day and Zahaminto surrendered himself to the police.

The judge ruled that Zahaminto did not have the intention to cause death and the murder weapon was never found.

Drug Pusher in Two Hour Chase

The narcotics team were on the lookout for a suspected drug pusher around the Sinsuran commercial complex at 3pm. The 49-year-old man was in a grey car when police gave chase.

The chase ended when police cornered the man at the central market at 5:15pm. Just before he was apprehended, the man had reached for a Browning semi-automatic pistol with eight bullets. Police found on him the pistol and four packets of crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing about 178g, worth RM40,000.

Police investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the drugs and the case had been classified under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 8 of the Firearms Act.

Prostitutes Offered Sex to Policemen

Two women prostituted themselves to police officers were charged in court.

T. Jayanthi, aged 41, was fined RM1,500 for offering sex to a plainclothes police officer. Salmah Bee Kadir Sultan, aged 32, was sent to four months' jail for offering sex to a police officer. They offered prices of RM100 and RM50 respectively.

Jayanthi had committed the offence at Tengkat Tong Shin, Dang Wangi, at 10.50pm on 26 November 2007.

Man Murdered Own Children Before Committing Suicide

An accountant who worked at a unit trust company, has allegedly strangled his two children to death and committed suicide by drinking a mixture of bleach and floor cleaner. Lee Tiang Siang, aged 39, had locked himself and his children, Lee Mei Shen, aged 9, and Lee Wei Shen, aged 7, in their Villa Angsana condominium off Jalan Ipoh.

Lee's wife, an insurance agent, had found their bodies at about 7:30pm after she had returned from their neightbour's residence after a quarrel with Lee. As the front door was locked, she got the help of security guards and firemen from the Fire and Rescue Department to break it down. She found the children's bodies in the master bedroom, believed to have been strangled to death with plastic bags. Lee was found in the bathroom with a handwritten note and bottles of bleach and floor cleaner solution.

Neighbours who were interviewed said that they saw loan sharks visiting Lee's condo unit at 5:30pm but were not allowed in. An argument between the couple followed after Lee's wife came home and found scratch marks on their car.

Police said that there were no visible marks on the bodies and the case had been classified as sudden death until they receive results of the post-mortems from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Man Found Hanged in Woods

A neighbour found the body of Chua Hwee Heng, aged 32, from Jalan Batang Paip in Bukit Treh, hanged in a wooded area Taman Desa Tiga. Chua had been missing for several days and his body was decomposing where it was found at 10am Wednesday.

Chua had looked for his uncle in the estate and told his father that gangsters were after him.

The body has been sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Man Stabs Grandmother for Gold Chain

A 25-year-old Hafandy Hamid had asked from his 66-year-old grandmother for a RM2,000 gold chain and when she refused to give him, he allegedly stabbed her in the back with a knife. He ran away with the gold chain The incident occurred at the woman's house at 2pm Monday at Bukit Payong.

A neightbour had sent the woman to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

Police has classified the case as causing hurt during a robbery.

Ganja Suspects Detained

Customs authorities spotted a suspicious driver of a Proton Satria and searched the car at 2:30pm on Monday. They found and seized 16 slabs of dried ganja leaves worth RM32,000 and arrested two people. It is believed that the items were brought in from Thailand.

The two are facing possible charges under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drug Act where the punishment is a death sentence.

Indonesian Man Jailed for Snatch Theft

An Indonesian man has been sentenced to two years' jail in court on Wednesday for stealing a woman's bag on 17 December 2007 at 4:30pm. Andy Litang, aged 56, was charged for stealing the bag from Seyee Abolfazi Zakerian, aged 39, at a shoe store along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. The bag contained only disposable nappies and children's clothing.

The accused then tried to escape in a taxi but were caught up by the victim and some passersby at Semua House. Andy was then taken to the police.

Fake RM100 Notes Found

Police were checking on a suspicious motorist in front of Dewan Bahasa Dan Pustaka along Jalan Wisma Putra at 5pm Monday, who was found with a penknife in his trouser pocket.

When they examined 56 pieces of RM100 notes found on him at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, they realized that they were fake. The 29-year-old man was previously involved in robbery and possessing stolen items.

Police have seized a Proton Wira and checking if it was reported to be stolen. They are now investigating if a counterfeit syndicate is involved in the fake notes.

State Health Department Engineer Charged with Falsifying Claims

Salmah Sulaiman, aged 40, has been charged on two counts of falsifying travel claims totalling to RM941.10 on Wednesday. The former engineer with the state health department has pleaded not guilty to both charges under Section 11 (c) of Anti-Corruption Agency Act.

Salmah was alleged to have committed the offences in October 2005 at the department office along Jalan Hang Tuah.

The judge has fixed bail at RM3,000 and RM5,000. Her cases will be set for trial on 6 March and 4 July 2007.

If convicted, Salmah faces jail time between 14 days and 20 years and a fine not less than five times the sum or RM20,000, whichever is higher.

Armed Bank Robbery Took Minutes

Three armed men entered a bank along Jalan Raja Uda at 2:45pm yesterday and made away with RM74,000. They were wearing ski masks and had fired four shots in the air to warn the security guard and everyone else to lie on the floor.

Police said that the men also robbed RM7,000 and a RM11,000 gold chain from a customer at the teller.

The robbers then escaped in a grey Proton Saga.

Burglars Stole from Former CID Director's Home

Former CID director Datuk Fauzi Shaari's house in Section 7 was hit by two burglars on Monday night. The former Selangor chief police officer and his wife reached him at 11pm to find a gold diamond ring and two watches stolen. The items were valued at RM10,000.

The burglars were believed to be in the master bedroom when he and his family returned home. They had entered the house by breaking through the ceiling on the second floor and escaped by using a ladder through the same opening.

No arrests have been made.

Firecrackers Seized by Customs at North Port

Two containers of "king rockets" and firecrackers worth RM274,600 were seized by the Teluk Intan Customs authorities at the Klang Container Terminal’s Free Trade Zone in North Port on Monday afternoon. The unpaid duties of the items are estimated to be RM178.490.

Customs believe that a national syndicate is involved in the smuggling of such firecrackers every Chinese New Year. The items in this incident were shipped as microphones via a fake company name.

Three Police Officers Re-charged for Corruption

Three police officers were re-charged in a Sessions court for soliciting a RM300 bribe in 2004 after the witness in the case was found in Kajang prison. The officers were acquitted of the crime in September 2006 because there was no witness from the prosecution.

L/Kpl Sahardin Nalam, 51, L/Kpl Noor Azman Ali, 40 and Kons Sharol Ixuan Salleh (sic), 24, who were attached at the Endau police station, were charged for soliciting the bribe from a former settler Che Ali Jusoh on 2 February 2004 at around 12pm in Pekan Endau. It was to hide the fact that Che Ali did not have a driving license and was found with a tube of straw allegedly containing heroin.

The judge fixed bail at RM3,000 each.

They were charged under Section 10 (a) (bb) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 (Act 575) for corruptly soliciting gratification and read together with Section 24 of the Penal Code (Act 574) for dishonestly causing wrongful gain to one person and wrongful loss to another person.

L/Kpl Noor Azman was also charged for accepting a RM300 bribe from Che Ali at about 2:05pm on the same day, allegedly in relation to the same case. The charge was under Section 11 (a) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 for accepting gratification.

Bail was fixed at RM3,000 bail for the second charge.

Both cases were fixed for trial on 11 April 2007.

American Lifeguard Fondled by Man

An 18-year-old American was asking a man for directions to his hotel and was offered to stay for the night at the man's house. The young man was drunk at around 1am on Sunday. The young man works as a lifeguard in Phuket, Thailand.

The suspect led him to a budget hotel along Chulia Street. The young man woke up in the morning at 9am, shocked to find the man's hand inside his boxer shorts. The suspect then threatened to inform the police that the young man had broken into his hotel room.

The young man went off and lodged a police report regardless and the suspect was arrested a few hours later at the hotel where it was learnt that he was a hotel receptionist.

Police are detaining the suspect for seven days and the case has been classified as an act of gross indecency under Section 377D of the Penal Code.

Detention Centre Warder Arrested for Supplying Drugs

A warder in the Simpang Renggam detention centre has been arrested for supplying drugs to inmates there.

The Prisons Department are also investigating five other warders. A task force was set up to handle the growing situation in Simpang Renggam and other prisons. The Department has improved security procedures for inmates and prison staff to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

The suspect is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
