Ipoh
Two youths were arrested for possession of drugs in Tronoh in 2001 when they were 17 years old. Yesterday, the two, who just turned 22, were sentenced to 10 years' jail and 10 strokes of the cane.
The High Court, which took over their cases when they were 18 years old, wanted to send a strong message that child drug offenders will not be left off lightly. However, the court ordered that the whipping be carried out according to the Child Act 2001 such that a lighter cane would be used with average force.
