Court Dismisses Ahmad Najib's Appeal of Murder of Canny Ong

6 March 2007
Putrajaya

The Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed Ahmad Najib Aris’ appeal and confession that he murdered Canny Ong three years ago. Judge Datuk Abdul Aziz Mohamad rejected the 32-year-old former aircraft cabin cleaning supervisor's confession which he suspected was pressured by the police to give in hopes that he would get a light sentence.

Abdul Aziz Mohamad, Mohd Ghazali Mohd Yusoff and Azmel Ma’amor unanimously agreed on the stand of his conviction.

Abdul Aziz stated that circumstantial evidence supported Ahmad Najib's conviction that he murdered Ong. Ahmad Najib's semen was found in the victim's vagina and Ong's bloodstains were found on Ahmad Najib's trousers support the fact that he was with her.

Ahmad Najib will face the death sentence and twenty years' jail for the murder and raping of Ong respectively, which were passed by trial judge Datuk Muhammad Ideres Rapee on 23 February 2003.

Canny Ong raped and murdered at the 11th kilometre of Jalan Klang Lama between 1am and 5am on 14 June 2003.
