Salmi Ishak, aged 30, a former clerk who was sentenced to three years' jail for assisting to dispose 30 stolen cheques worth RM182,000 through three bank accounts with the SS2 Maybank branch between 8 and 17 September 2003. She was acquitted by the High Court yesterday because there was no evidence that she was aware that the cheques were deposited into her account, together with the accounts of her friends Faziana Shari and Shahrulazha Muhammad.
Salmi was charged on 9 October 2003 with involvement in the RM3 million Penang Treasury cheque scam. The cheques were issued by Maybank Komtar in Penang.
