A 42-year-old man who was one of the four wanted men responsible for car thefts and exporting them overseas, has been arrested when he arrived at the Malaysia-Thailand border at Bukit Kayu Hitam on Friday evening.
Two men were in a Mercedes CLK and were arrested by police. Three Toyota Fortuner car keys, a laptop, a thumb drive and a book containing details of vehicles sold in Thailand were seized from the vehicle.
Police believe at least 10 vehicles including Toyota Avanza, Hilux and Harrier were sold in Thailand. It has yet to be determined if the vehicles were stolen in Malaysia before being exported there.
The first suspect, one of the four car theft masterminds, had entered Malaysia but his passport did not show that he had been to Thailand. Police are checking with the Immigration Department on how he managed to travel with no record. The passport did state that the suspect had been to Kenya, Dubai and Singapore in the past 12 months and police believe some of the stolen vehicles may have been exported to these countries.
Both suspects have been transferred to Klang police who are investigating a case of eight stolen vehicles found in containers headed for Batam, Indonesia.
Police believe the three other masterminds are overseas.
