The 40-year-old taxi driver who was held for the death of his 5-year-old son has been charged with physical abuse on the boy. K. Segaran allegedly had abused his son, S. Thayalan, on 28 December 2007 at 10am in Kempas Baru.
After he was abused, the boy start vomiting. The father then sent him to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital but the boy died on the way.
The charge, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, carries a 10-year jail term or RM20,000 fine or both. Segaran pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge fixed bail at RM9,000 and set trial on 16 April 2008.
