Petaling Jaya
An armed robber was shot dead by police in Bandar Sri Damansara yesterday midnight after a high-speed car chase. His accomplice escaped in a stolen BMW vehicle. The men are alleged to be members of the Berong Gang, which was known for robbing people who had made cash withdrawals from banks.
A police special rounds team was tailing the suspects' car at Kota Damansara before forcing them to stop near the Bandar Sri Damansara clubhouse. When the policemen approached the car, the suspects came out. One of them started to escape on foot while the other fired two shots at the policemen. He was killed by the return fire from the policemen.
A revolver and some rounds of ammunition were found on the dead suspect, a 56-year-old Indonesian.
The dead suspect is believed to the gang's leader while the rest of the gang is believed to have gone into hiding.
Police are now hunting for the second suspect.
