25 January 2007
Kuala Lumpur

A 17-men gang of robbers, known as the "Apache Gang", mostly in their 20s, have comitted 21 robberies in two months. Police have caught 7 of them while the rest are wanted.

The gang often surrounded their victims, usually women, with their motorcycles, wielding parangs and wearing crash helmets. Their mobile phones had the gang's slogan, "Belia Benci Polis" meaning "Police Hating Youths".

The last robbery took place at Bangsar, where five men robbed two female students of their mobile phones and RM1,300. One of them dropped his mobile phone which was handover over to the police.

Almost two weeks later, a police team raided a house at Batu Caves and seized 11 mobiles phones, helmets, 6 motorcycles and clothes used in their offences. Five were arrested that day and the sixth on the next day at Sungei Buloh. The seventh gave himself up on January 14 2007.

Police believe that they have comitted these robberies in Brickfields, Dang Wangi and Cheras areas since December last year.
