Three police officers responded to a public call about two suspicious men in a car near a Pulau Melaka village yesterday morning. They approached the suspects' white car in their patrol car. When they alighted, the driver tried to knock them down by reversing his car. Although the policemen escaped getting hit, the driver tried two more times to run them down.
The policemen opened fire three times and hit the passenger. He was arrested while the driver managed to escape. The 22-year-old is currently warded at the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia.
The suspect who escaped has been identified to be previously convicted for drug abuse and motorcycle theft.
