Early morning yesterday, police from the Kuching criminal intelligence unit was approaching a car with a false registration number when one of the suspects fell as the driver tried to escape. The suspect was arrested while the rest escaped in the car.
The police team then found the suspect's wife and their three children in one of the houses in the vicinity. They found two kris and a sword believed to be stolen from Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Effendi Norwawi's house along Jalan Merdeka on Christmas Eve last month. There were also other stolen police and electrical items, 38 pieces in total.
The 30-year-old man detained for seven days by the police is believed to be an Indonesian national from Gangga Satu, Pontianak. Police are currently searching for the other four suspects, aged between 30 and 40 years.
