Pirated DVDs Shipped in PVC Pipes

29 January 2007
Kuala Lumpur

Cargo staff at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport uncovered a consignment of 850 pirated DVDs that were to be shipped to Miri. The discs were hidden in large PVC pipes but were detected to be suspicious when scanned.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry sent two officers to open the packages. They found that the DVDs were arranged inside the pipes and DVD jackets were used to prevent them from falling out.

The discs have been been sent to the ministry’s forensics lab for testing to determine their origin.

Since the beginning of the year, about 40,000 such discs have been seized at delivery centres nationwide since the start of the year. They were meant for markets in the Middle East, Japan, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
