Kuala Lumpur
A 42-year-old Singaporean, who arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport from Paris yesterday, was arrested yesterday for possessing about 57,588 Ecstasy pills estimated to be worth RM500,000.
The largest seizure by the police this year, Federal Narcotics Department chief Datuk Bakri Zinin believes that they have crippled an international drug syndicate by the arrest of the man at 7:20am that day, who is believed to be a courier for the syndicate.
Acting on a tip-off, police stopped the man just outside of the airport and found the pills wrapped with carbon paper and placed inside potato chip wrappings. He had spent a week in Paris.
Authorities are checking with the Singaporean counterparts to track the syndicate, which is believed to be using Singaporeans to courier drugs from Europe to this region of the world.
