Robbers Took Retiree on Terror Ride

20 August 2007
Johor Baru

Retiree Goo Tiam Chye was abducted by four men when he left his house in Taman Skudai Baru at 6:15am yesterday. The 69-year-old man was forced into the suspects' car and had to give them the house keys. They hit him for refusing to give the keys but the victim gave them up later.

Goo's son, Sin Kok, is the Gelang Patah MCA public complaints bureau deputy chief.

The suspects drove back to the house and three of them entered the house and tied up Goo's 60-year-old wife, and his two children, both in their 20s. They managed to rob RM3,000 worth of cash, jewellery and mobile phones. When two of the suspects tried to drive a Proton Perdana out of the house, a police patrol car came onto the scene.

Two suspects in the stolen Proton Perdana and the two others who were with Goo in the first car, sped off in different directions. Police fired warning shots at the Proton Perdana, which stalled a few minutes later when the vehicle security system disabled it.

Police have arrested a man in his 30s.

Goo suffered leg injuries and has been warded for observation.
