An international drug trafficking syndicate has been busted by the police authorities when 11 people, two of whom are women, were arrested and RM3.85million worth of heroin was seized. The suspects were aged between 21 and 34 years.
The syndicate had been using police, army and political party stickers and emblems on their luxury vehicles to avoid checks at roadblocks. They were detained from several locations in Kajang and Cheras last Friday.
Police found 77kg of heroin Grade III and 16 luxury vehicles such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus, and an Augusta motorcycle. The vehicles were worth about RM3million. RM706,738 cash, a Heckler & Koch USP pistol and a magazine with 12 rounds of ammunition were also seized from the suspects. This follows a four-month investigation by officers from the Bukit Aman, Negri Sembilan and Selangor narcotics crime investigation departments.
The heroin is believed to have been smuggled into Malaysia from the Golden Triangle and police are investigating the international links of the syndicate.
Nine suspects have been remanded until 6 August 2007 under section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. The women are remanded until 6 August 2007 and are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985. The seized assets, valuables and cash have been frozen under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) 1988.
