Four Suspects Believed to Have Observed UTAR Student

13 August 2007
Kuala Lumpur

It is believed that the main suspects of the murder of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman student Tang Lai Meng had been watching the her house for some time. Three brothers and their unemployed 34-year-old uncle, who are now in police remand, have been observing that the 20-year-old undergraduate was staying along in the Bandar Mahkota Cheras house.

The four had stayed in a house near to the victim. When they saw Tang returning home in her Toyota Vios on 2 August 2007, they broke into the house via the back door. Tang was probably held down by more than one person as a medical report suggests. They had initially wanted to rob Tang, but instead they decided to rape and murder her.

The uncle broke his house arrest in Temerloh under the Restricted Residence Act last year and escaped to stay with his three nephews. The victim's car has been recovered and the laptop computer and mobile phone from third parties who bought them.

The Pakistani security guards who were arrested earlier will be handed over to the Immigration Department as they did not have valid work permits.
