Elizabeth Chew Gaik Im, a 66-year-old retired teacher, was hit on the head by snatch thieves in Century Garden and died.

On Sunday 8:50am after mass for breakfast along Jalan Harimau, she was walking behind her friend 66-year-old Michael Towle when the latter found her bleeding on the head. Chew was sent to the hospital for treatment but died at 5pm.

Chew had died of a blockage of an artery by a blood clot.

Rela volunteer Allan Tham, aged 42, had witnessed four men on two motorcycles riding in the area. He saw them snatched a woman's handbag near a budget hotel beside the Holiday Plaza shopping centre. He followed them in his car.

Then, he saw them snatched another woman's handbag about 250 metres away from the first incident. They claimed the third victim, who was an elderly woman who fell to the ground.

When the thieves crashed into a vehicle, they were caught by a group of diners near the scene. Police confirmed that there were two snatch thefts.
