Newborn Boy Strangled and Thrown from Flat Window

20 October 2007
Penang

A newborn baby boy was stuffed into a plastic bag and thrown out of a flat window in Kampung Melayu, Air Itam, just a few hours after he was born yesterday. A piece of nylon cloth was found around the fair-skinned baby's neck suggesting that he was also strangled before he was thrown down with the umbilical cord still intact.

First-year medical college student K. Vijayananthni, aged 21, discovered the body at a badminton court near the Desa Mawar flats at 12:40pm. She realized it was a body when she saw a bloodied leg sticking out from the bag.

Post-mortem results showed that the newborn's bones have all broken upon impact.

Police have classified the case as murder.
