Projek Lebuh Raya Utara-Selatan (PLUS) administrative assistant Mohd Bahir Dal was called to the witness stand in the murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday to explain about the images captured by the Kota Damansara toll booth camera. The four-wheel-drive vehicle of accused Corporal Sirul Azhar was allegedly driven past the toll gate on 19 October 2006 at 7:14am.
Although the camera was recording, Bahir said that the images of the driver and the vehicle registration number were not clear.
On 9 November 2006, Bahir had played back the camera video for investigating officer Corporal Yusry Katan. He downloaded and printed four still images on a computer in his office.
Bahir told the court that there was no recording at the Jalan Duta toll plaza at that time due to a technical problem.
Rashidi Abdul Razak, a technician with Propel Sdn Bhd that is responsible for the maintenance of the CCTV system for PLUS, told the court that he went to the Kota Damansara toll booth to carry out maintenance work on 14 October 2006 as the server for the camera was down.
Another Propel technician, Mohd Rashidi Ariffin, said he went to the Kota Damansara toll booth on 25 October 2006 to attend to a similar problem. He said that such camera breakdowns causes the recording to be unclear and the electronic timing to stop.
The trial continues tomorrow.
