J. Primulapathi, aged 54, was at the High Court murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday, presenting 29 exhibits from the prosecution. He is the director of the forensics division of the Chemistry Department.
Among the items tendered were hair, body tissue, bone fragments and skeletal remains believed to be of the murder victim Altantuya. Blood samples contained in bottles belonging to Altantuya's father Dr Shaariibuu Setev, her mother S. Altansetseg, accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, accused political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, and Lance Corporal Rohaniza Roslan.
Primulapathi said that on 11 November 2006, investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Tonny Lunggan had submitted 18 sealed envelopes containing bottles and tubes for DNA analysis. Lunggan then sent him another 11 items in sealed envelopes on 15 November 2006, including a vehicle steering wheel, a smart card reader with a Touch 'n Go card, some bloodstained newspapers, a pair of white slippers, a plastic tube containing a sweat-soaked swab stick and a strand of hair found in a vehicle's front passenger seat.
Primulapathi told the court that he had been a forensic chemist for the past 30 years and that the department's DNA laboratory has been accredited internationally by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board. He had been performing DNA analysis for murder, rape, armed robbery, body identification, maternal and paternal tests purposes since 1994.
As not all the items were tendered in time yesterday, the rest of the items will be presented in court today.
