Algerian Suspect May Have Known Singaporean Murder Victim

6 November 2007
Kuala Lumpur

It has been determined that the 35-year-old Algerian man who was remanded for the murder of Singaporean Mahani Abdullah was the tenant of the Bangsar Indah condominium unit along Lorong Maarof, and not Mahani herself. 50-year-old Mahani was found stabbed and lying in a pool of blood by the unit owner, an Egyptian, on Sunday.

Police have checked with the Immigration Department that Mahani has visited Malaysia five times since September. She was believed to have known the Algerian, who has taken a DNA test with the police.

The Algerian has been remanded until Friday.
