The 5-year-old girl who was found dead in her mother's car while the latter went to a hypermarket in Kepong was found to have strangulation marks on her neck and her mouth and nose had been blocked before she died, according to the post-mortem report. Earlier, the girl was believed to have been raped.
Police said there were also bruises and cigarette butt marks all over the girl's body, suggesting that she was physically abused.
The 26-year-old mother was arrested after she had lodged a report at the Sentul police headquarters on Tuesday. Her boyfriend, believed to be an illegal DVD seller and telecommunications outlet owner from Batu Pahat, is wanted by the police. It is believed that he was previously involved in theft and criminal intimidation.
