Gurun
Four armed robbers got away with RM3 million cash which was ferried by two security guards and a driver of an armoured vehicle at the Gurun Rest and Recreation stop on the North-South Expressway heading north towards Alor Star yesterday.
The guards were unloading cash from the vehicle to replenish an automated teller machine there when the robbers pulled up alongside them in a black multi-purpose vehicle at 4:30pm. One of the robbers pointed a gun at the driver, 38-year-old Zainuddin Yahaya, and ordered him to drive to an oil palm plantation in Kampung Sungai Bongkok.
There, the guards were ordered to squat outside while the robbers moved five bags of cash into their MPV. The robbers then left the guards and their armoured vehicle at the plantation.
Police have detained the security guards to facilitate investigations.
