Seremban
On Thursday at 8:30am, Customs officers raided an area along Jalan Sg Tua, Batu Caves, Selangor, and seized three lorries containing RM2.8 million worth of smuggled firecrackers.
102 cartons of contraband, believed to have been brought in from China via the Butterworth port, were seized. A 30-year-old lorry driver was also detained.
The smuggling syndicate had tried to fool the authorities by placing several boxes of frozen chickens and crates of saucers and cups at the front of the containers.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing banned goods.
