Johor Baru
Showgirls have been parading in a restaurant in Taman Skudai Baru on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between midnight and 1am. Police have busted the restaurant yesterday for flouting city council entertainment regulations and arrested a 28-year-old showgirl.
The restaurant operators blocked off Jalan Hang Kasturi 23 by setting a stage and placing tables around the stage to cater for 1,000 diners. Male clients would usually pack the restaurant to watch the showgirls take off their clothing piece by piece leaving only bra and shorts on. The customers could buy the showgirls a bouquet for RM10 or a sash between RM50 and RM1,000.
About RM40,000 worth of sound equipment were seized by the police. The stage was also shut down and a 24-year-old man believed to be the disc jockey was arrested. Police said that the restaurant operators may be charged under Section 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment Enactment for operating an illegal entertainment centre, which carries a one-year jail term or a RM10,000 fine or both.
