Sabak Bernam
A Customs officer was killed and another seriously injured when their car, which was chasing a cigarette smuggler suspect, crashed into a telephone pole and a cocoanut tree yesterday at 5:20am.
30-year-old Sazli Abdullah Khan and 23-year-old Ahmad Zharif Ahmad Zubir were patrolling in their Proton Wira vehicle when they gave chase on the suspect from Sungai Haji Baroni towards Sungai Besar. Their vehicle skidded along Jalan Sungai Besar - Tanjung Malim and swerved to the other side, crashing into the tree and pole.
Driver Sazli died on arrival at the Sabak Bernam Hospital. Azhmad Sharif suffered a broken left forearm and has been transferred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang after his condition turned stable.
