A 59-year-old fish breeder in Kampung Beris, Marang was found in his home with his throat slit and bruises on his face and head. Murder victim Tan Hai Peng was home alone while his wife Lau Choy Yuet was on vacation.
Some knives and a bloodstained forked spear were found by the police.
Tan's 33-year-old son Tan Aik Lay said the murder was likely caused by revenge because Tan was threatened by some villagers when he said would lodge a police report against them for stealing some mobile phones. He had lodged three reports on assault and theft in August.
Police have arrested a 30-year-old woodcutter from Kampung Kubur Pengkalan Berangan are looking for a second suspect.
