Ipoh

34-year-old Zainuddin Bidi and 30-year-old Nor Arman Zainal have been sentenced to 12 years' jail each yesterday for the manslaughter of 71-year-old widow Inson Anjang Lateh. Three of them, one of whom is still at large, broke into Inson's house in Kampung Paloh Bemban, Tanjung Bidara, Kampung Gajah between 9pm on 22 August 2006 and 4:15pm the next day.

Inson's hands and feet were bound and her mouth gagged with a baju kurung. She sustained 15 injuries on her head, face, chest, elbows and hips. Post-mortem results showed that she fainted as her mouth was tied very tightly.

Zainuddin kept watch outside the house while Nor Aman tied Inson up and searched for valuables in the house. The third man took the jewellery that Inson was wearing. They managed to gain RM680 each from the sale of the victim's jewellery.

Zainuddin and Nor Arman both had previous convictions for heroin possession. Zainuddin was also involved in vehicle theft and escaping from a drug rehabilitation centre. Nor Arman was also involved in possession of stolen goods. They lived in the same area as the victim. They were arrested on 9 October 2006 and 14 October 2006 respectively.

On October 19 2006, the two were charged with murder but when they pleaded guilty later, the charge was reduced to committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
