A 14-year-old Form Two student was arrested on Sunday when he returned to his religious school hostel in Changkat Jering. He has been remanded for six days to aid in investigations on Muhammad Shamil Izwan Ahmad Shukri, who fell into a coma last Monday. Muhammad Shamil was allegedly forced to drink water that contained weed killer solution.
The 14-year-old victim has regained consciousness on Saturday. His father Ahmad Shokri Ayob said Muhammad Shamil is out of critical condition but is still weak.
Police are investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. The suspect, a student from Sekolah Menengah Addiniyah Jelutong, had been sent to a juvenile lock-up at a police station in Pokok Assam.
Police had seized a plastic cup, a gourd and a plastic drink container. The liquid has not yet been identified by the Chemistry Department. Muhammad Shamil had written the name of one of his hostel mates as the person responsible on some notes, which has been given to the police.
