Driving Instructors Charged with Accepting Bribes

Six driving instructors and a clerk at a driving school in Ipoh have been charged in court yesterday for soliciting and accepting bribes to allow learner drivers get their probation licenses.

Leong Vun Ling, Omar Ali Bacha and Mohd Ramlan Abd Rahman, K. Palaniappan, Noor Azmi Ibrahim and Othman Omar were intructing at driving schools in Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor and Selangor. They are charged for accepting bribe amounts between RM350 and RM450.

The clerk was charged with accepting RM600 to give a 16-year-old boy his probation licence.

Under Section 10 (a) (aa) of the Anti Corruption Act 1997, the suspects face between 14 days and 20 years' jail and fine of at least five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
