Kuala Lumpur
Two Sri Lankan men from Colombo were fleeced of more than RM15,000 by an immigration officer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The officer had ordered 32-year-old Krishnan Pillai Aklieswaran and Piratheeean to surrender their cash, valuables and passports on 11 September 2007.
The officer left and did not return.
When the victims tried to enquire with another officer, they were detained and put in the immigration lock-up at the airport between 11 and 15 September for having false visas in their passports. They were then transferred to the Illegal Immigrants Detention Centre in Semenyih.
The men have not been released even after an immigration officer verified that their passports and return air tickets belonged to them. They claimed that the visas were by the Malaysian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
