Police believe that 3-year-old Shearwey Ooi Ying Ying was murdered, burnt with kerosene and the remains thrown over a cemetery, river and an apartment dumpsite in Paya Terubong and another river in Jalan Air Itam.
Bayan Lepas police have arrested a woman and her boyfriend at 1pm yesterday. They will be remanded until 18 July 2007 to aid in police investigations.
It is believed that the the man had murdered the girl in their rented apartment in Bandar Baru Air Itam on Friday. The woman, a close relative to the victim, was at work. Shearwey's body was then brought to a nearby cemetery where it was burnt with kerosene. The girl was possibly killed a few hours after she was reported missing by her mother.
The man, who works as a karaoke lounge manager, was arrested a few years ago for fighting.
The forensic team was led by the man to the cemetery at 7pm where they found a bone fragment near a tombstone. Her burnt pyjamas were found wrapped in a black plastic bag at a river nearby. Police then went to an apartment in Lintang Paya Terubong and to another river at Jalan Air Itam and finally to the couple's apartment.
