Day 12 of Altantuya Murder Trial

4 July 2007
Shah Alam

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noordin Badaruddin went through with Lance Corporal Rohaniza Roslan on the five points that the proecution found to contradict Roslan's testimony and her police statement made on 16 November 2006. Roslan is being impeached by the prosecution on grounds of perjury, on which Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin will judge at the end of prosecution's case.

Roslan maintained that her testimony in court is correct and that she had been pressured and tortured during and after her 14-day remand period to change her statement. She said that police would not charge her and Azilah with murder if she stood by her statement.

On June 11 2007, Roslan received an anonymous call when she was at a petrol station in Kuala Lumpur. The Malay-sounding voice said "Don't be a witness or you'll be shot". She lodged a police report at the Pantai station on the same day.

Roslan said she was confused and under stress during her remand period and that the statements made then were inaccurate. She said that different officers asked her different questions every day from 8am to 7pm during that time, threatening and yelling at her. After that period, she was taken to a hotel room to stay for one night against her will and under guard.

Investigating officers DSP Gan Tack Guan and ASP Tonny Lunggan allegedly tortured Roslan into signing another statement, which stated that Azilah had got into the Suzuki Vitara, driven by the man in a green cap, with Altantuya. By doing so, Roslan was assured by them that she would not be charged for murder.

Constable Nurwazlihawa Ibrahim, who took down Altantuya's police report, said in court as the eight prosecution witness, that she had observed that Altantuya "look troubled", as if she was afraid for her life.

The 19-year-old policewoman was on duty at the Tun H.S. Lee police station when Altantuya appeared on 19 October 2006. As Altantuya was not able to speak English well, Nurwazlihawa said Constable Mohd Salleh Ibrahim had initiated Altantuya to type her report using a computer keyboard.

Nurwazlihawa then contacted the investigating officer on duty, who was ASP Zamilah, to handle Altantuya's report. Zamilah and Altantuya spoke in English and Altantuya left the police station after that.

Abdul Razak Baginda's secretary, Siti Aisyah Mohd Azlan, was the ninth prosecution witness on the twelfth day of the Altantuya murder trial. The 24-year-old woman told the court that Abdul Razak had told her than Altantuya was dead and Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri was the killer.

On 7 November 2006, Abdul Razak also explained to Siti Aisyah that Azilah was the "UTK (Unit Tindakan Khas) guy" who had a meeting with him on 18 October 2006. Siti Aisyah quoted Abdul Razak as saying, "I only asked him to protect my home and family, not kill the woman".

A few minutes later, a team of police officers led by DSP Lim Meng Seah entered the office and asked for Abdul Razak. He went into Abdul Razak's room and took him away, but Abdul Razak was not handcufffed.

Siti Aisyah also said that Altantuya had visited Abdul Razak's office three times from August to October last year. Altantuya had passed a note on each visit. She managed to speak with Abdul Razak once in August.
