State CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Roslan Ahmad said that while the crime rape in Johor has dropped for the first six months of the year, the number of occurrences of statutory rape has increased by 8% compared to the same period last year. 9 out of 10 rape cases involved underage girls having consensual sex.
SAC Rosland said there are also cases of girls above 18 years old who have had consensual sex but report to the police as having been raped after they got pregnant. He urges parents of girls to work with the police to reduce the numbers as they are mostly consensual.
