Customs Superintendent Found Guilty of Bribery

Customs superintendent Abdul Malik Stawasil has been sentenced by a Sessions Court to 4 years' jail and fined RM125,000 for two counts of bribery. He was found guilty of accepting RM20,000 from Ho Sook Fong, the owner of Roover Car Care Centre. In return, Abdul Malik would not take action against Ho's company which did not pay service tax.

The Internal Tax Enforcement Unit officer had committed the offence at the Customs department’s car park in Pusat Bandar Damansara at 4pm on 20 February 2003.

He was also found guilty of receiving another RM5,000 as bribe from Ho as an inducement not to take action against his company which did not have a service tax licence at the company premises at Sungai Chuah industrial area in Kajang at 1:45pm on 8 March 2003.

The judge had sentenced Abdul Malik to two years' jail for the first offence and another two for the second, but the jail terms will run concurrently.
