Bar Council chairman S. Ambiga expressed concern on the way Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail suddenly changed the team prosecutors as "very unusual". Abdul Gani said on Monday that the change was necessary to ensure a "fair trial" for the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case.
The new team admitted in court on the same day that they were not yet capable of handling the trial and sought for postponement of the trial. Newly appointed lead prosecutor Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah said he was unaware of the reason for their sudden change as well.
Ambiga said the Attorney-General's Chambers would determine the reason and the ability of the previous team to handle the trial fairly, so as to end speculations.
The previous team consisted of Salehuddin Saidin and Noorin Badaruddin, who had handled the Canny Ong murder trial. The change has caused the trial to be postponed to June 18 2007.
