Shah Alam
On Dat 41 of the murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, it was learnt that accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar had travelled between Kota Damansara and Jalan Duta on 19 October 2006, the day when Altantuya disappeared.
30-year-old Wan Abdullah Wan Ali who works as an operations executive from Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd said Azhar's prepaid toll card, also known as Touch 'n Go card, was used at 7:14am that day from the Kota Damansara toll to the Jalan Duta toll and returned to Kota Damansara at 6:06pm. At 8:48pm, the card was used to from Kota Damansara to Jalan Duta and again at 9:57pm returning to Kota Damansara. Finally, the card was used at 12:01am the next day from Kota Damansara to Jalan Duta.
Police had requested from Rangkaian Segar for the ownership details of the card on 9 November 2006. Wan Abdullah produced the report the same day for them.
He also said that each toll plaza had a closed circuit television camera.
In previous trial sessions, the court learnt that police had gone through the same toll plazas when they were led to the area in Puncak Alam where Altantuya's remains were recovered. Azhar's residential apartment is also in Kota Damansara, where police found Altantuya's belongings.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah showed Wan Abdullah photographs from the toll plaza cameras showing a jeep vehicle entering the expressway at the Kota Damansara toll at 7:14:40am and exiting at the Jalan Duta toll at 7:14:47am. Noting the time difference of only seven seconds between the photographs, Wan Abdullah explained that it was possibly caused by the lack of time synchronization between cameras at each toll plaza.
Azhar's counsel Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin then asked Wan Abdullah if he agreed that the photograph may not necessarily show the same vehicle that was using Azhar's Touch 'n Go card. He agreed, noting that he could not make out the license plate number of the vehicle as well.
The trial continues today.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Handwritten Notes by Abdul Razak Linked to Azilah Hadri
27 September 2007
Shah Alam
Giving his testimony as the 30th witness in the murder trial of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu was 48-year Wong Kong Yong, a document examiner with the Chemistry Department in Petaling Jaya. He said that the note found in accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri's bag on 12 November 2006 was written by political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.
In the note were details such as the name of Abdul Razak’s father, Datuk Abdullah Malim Baginda, his home address in Damansara Heights and the hotel room number where Altantuya stayed before her death. Wong found 18 areas of similarities when he compared the handwriting on the note with samples taken from Abdul Razak and two of his notebooks that were seized from his office.
Thus, Wong told the court that he believed that the notes found in Azilah's office were written by Abdul Razak.
Chief Inspector Ahmad Abu Bakar, aged 35, told the court that he was instructed by DSP Gan Tack Guan to obtain samples of Abdul Razak's handwriting in the Bukit Aman police headquarters on 14 and 15 November 2006 for analysis purposes. All four handwritten documents were then submitted to the Chemistry Department by investigating officer ASP Tonny Lunggan on 17 November 2006.
Lunggan also sent three more sets of documents on 26 June 2007 to the department, including three Hotel Malaya sheets, a plain sheet of paper, a Hotel Malaya envelope, a handwritten sheet of paper, and a Hotel Malaya letterhead with handwriting. These were believed to have been written by murder victim Altantuya.
The trial continues today.

Father Charged with Culpable Homicide Instead of Murder
27 September 2007
Shah Alam
Roslee Tamrin allegedly slapped and shook his 5-month-old baby, Mohd Ridzuan and caused his death in a rented room at Lot 4578, Jalan Sungai Udang in Klang between 10am and 11am on 28 December 2004.
His wife, Noranita Nordin, was at work when Roslee was alone with the baby. Their landlady and her son had went to the bank. Ridzuan started to cry but despite Roslee's attempts to pacify him, the baby continued to cry.
Roslee slapped and shooked the baby repeatedly until there was no sound. The baby started gasping for air, but Roslee stayed in the living room until the landlady returned an hour later.
The baby was brought to the Klang Hospital where a doctor diagnosed the baby as suffering from "shaken baby syndrome". The baby finally died on 31 December 20034. Post-mortem results revealed that he had died from severe haemorrhage in the brain.
Roslee underwent psychiatric evaluation which indicated that he had "borderline mental retardation", leaving him with the mental state of only a 12-year-old.
In court yesterday, Roslee pleaded guilty to the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He was initially charged with murder. Roslee faces a maximum of 10 years in jail.
The judge set 5 October 2007 for sentencing.

Nigerian Men Wanted for Murder of Two Women, Children Traumatized
26 September 2007
Kuala Lumpur
Two more Nigerian men are wanted by the police to aid in investigations on the murder of two women in Taman Usahawan, Kepong.
The two women, one of whom was a mother of two young children, were believed to be students and housemates of two Nigerian men who were arrested at a nearby unit of the shoplot on Monday. These men are students at private colleges in Jalan Masjid India and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Police will remand them until 30 September 2007.
Beautician Ang Chin Ping, aged 36, was found laying naked in the hall, while her housemate, Wong Tan Yong, aged 32, a direct-sales agent was found lying face down in another room. Ang's 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter had witnessed the murders.
The suspects had told the children to go into their room where they were believed to have spent at least two hours with the bodies.
A foot-long blood-stained knife was found in the kitchen sink of the victims' unit and post-mortem results showed that Wong was not sexually assaulted before she was murdered.
Ang's 51-year-old mother Pan Khuan Dai, father Ang Thean Poh and uncle Ang Yew Weng were at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital yesterday to claim Ang's body.
Hospital child psychiatrist Dr Toh Chin Lee will assess the mental and emotional health of the children while they remain under the police child protection unit. The Welfare Department would give RM250 to each child per month as the children now had no parents.
Their father had jumped to his death a few months ago.

Mother Allegedly Locked Daughter as Punishment
25 September 2007
Seremban
The 37-year-old housewife from Seremban 2 had told the state Welfare Department that she had locked her 9-year-old girl in an iron cage behind their house for nine hours as punishment for the girl's attempt to forge her mother's signature on a school report card. The girl was locked in the cage from midnight till the next morning.
Both mother and child were at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital here yesterday when welfare officials visited. Officials said that causing emotional distress or anguish is also a form of abuse under the Child Protection Act, although parents have the right to punish their children.
The housewife admitted that she had also locked her daughter out of the front gate for hours several times for punishment purposes.
There were no physical signs of abuse on the girl. Statements have been taken from the girl, the mother and their businessman stepfather.
Police are waiting for a report from the Welfare Department before they decide on the next course of action.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Slippers Not Seen in Azhar's Jeep
25 September 2007
Shah Alam
The prosecution team in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial had stated on 18 June 2007 that it would show evidence that a pair of blood-stained slippers was found in accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar's jeep and that a DNA test showed that the blood was Altantuya's.
In the High Court yesterday, Special Action Squad (UTK) operative Sergeant Rosli Ibrahim told the court that he did not see the pair of slippers during the two times that he helped Azhar start the jeep while the latter was on assignment in Pakistan. Instead, he said he only saw newspapers stacked neatly inside.
Lawyer Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, counsel for Azhar, had shown 36-year-old Rosli several pictures of the slippers during cross-examination on Day 38 of the murder trial. The pictures depicted a pair of white open-toed men's slippers on top of the newspapers.
When re-examined by Deputy Public Prosector Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah, Rosli said the photographs showed that the jeep was in a more messy condition than the last time he saw it on 6 November 2006. He remembered that the steering lock was in a different position, the front seats were upright, and there was no mineral water bottle.
Rosli then told counsel Ahmad Zaidi Zainal that Azhar had left the keys to his jeep in their Bukit Aman office and had asked Rosli to help run the engine. Rosli would start the engine and let it run for 30 minutes while he went to the canteen. He stated that DSP Khairi Khairuddin asked for the keys earlier that month, which he returned on 6 November 2006.
Chief Inspector Koh Fei Cheow testified in court that he did not see Assistant Superintendent Zulkarnain Samsudin threaten, promise or induce Azhar during interrogation, which Koh assisted in.
47-year-old Sergeant S. Nagendraroo from the city police logistics unit said he did not find any explosives, weapons or bullets in Azhar's Kota Damansara house when the bomb disposal team was there on 7 November 2006.
Both Koh and Nagendraroo were testifying in the trial-within-a-trial to determine if Azhar's alleged statement leading to the discovery of Altantuya's jewellery at his apartment should be included as evidence in court.
The trial continues today.

Two Women Sexually Assaulted and Stabbed to Death
25 September 2007
Kuala Lumpur
A beautician and her housemate were sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in their four-storey shoplot flat in Taman Usahawan, Kepong, yesterday between midnight and 9am.
36-year-old Ang Chin Ping was dragged out from her bedroom by a man. Her 4-year-old daughter and 6-year-old brother hid inside a room during the incident. When Ang's younger sister turned up at the flat at 10:30am, the boy came out and reported to her.
Ang was found lying naked in the hall. 32-year-old Wong Tan Yong, a direct sales agent, was also found lying face down in another room.
It is believed that two Nigerian students, who lived two floors below the victims' flat, had visited them several times since the victims moved in two months ago. Neighbours reportedly heard some arugments around midnight.
Police recovered a blood-stained knife in the flat, and have arrested the two students at 3:30pm and two Indonesian women who visited them that day. The suspects were found with the victims' identity cards and mobile phones.
It is learnt that Ang's husband committed suicide some months ago due to depression. The two children are now with Ang's relatives.

Bank Clerk Paid Cash to Sodomise Male Student
24 September 2007
Penang
A 13-year-old Form One male student was allegedly sodomised by a 46-year-old bank clerk in the latter's Bertam Lane house off Penang Road.
The clerk had befriended the student in May 2007, bringing him to dinner and movies. When he sodomised the student in his house, he paid him RM20 to keep quiet. From then on, the student had visited the clerk at least 14 times and was paid between RM10 and RM20 each time.
The victim's 17-year-old brother suspected something was wrong when the student started to buy toys he could not have afforded. After he had confessed, the student's mother lodged a police report at the Patani Road police station on Sunday.
A medical report at the Penang Hospital where the victim was examined showed that he had multiple tears on his anal sphincter.
Police have classified the case as committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent under Section 377C of the Penal Code and have arrested the clerk. They are determining if the clerk had multiple victims.

Police Freed Girl Kept in Cage
23 September 2007
Seremban
A 7-year-old girl was rescued by police from being locked in an iron cage behind her house in Vision Homes, Seremban 2 after neighbours called the police.
An anonymous neighbour had seen the girl in the cage on Friday midnight, crying for her mother to free her. When she stopped crying, he thought she was already let out. When he saw her still in the cage the next morning, he decided to call the police at 10am.
Four police arrived at the house and freed the girl. Neighbours said that she had been kept in the cage several times and her mother had made her stand outside of the main gate for hours as a form of discipline. They also said that the girl had no siblings and her father was seldom home.
Police have warned her against treating her daughter in this way, but have lodged a report today to bring the girl to the Seremban Hospital for a medical check-up. Authorities said that she will likely be sent to a welfare home for protection until the investigation was completed.

Nurin's Parents Accept DNA and Dental Tests, Man Suspect on Motorcycle Wanted
22 September 2007
Kuala Lumpur
The brutal sexual assault and murder of 8-year-old Nurin from Wangsa Maju has left her family in great grief as her body was laid to rest at the Taman Ibu Kota Muslim cemetery. Her father, taxi-driver Jazimin Abdul Jalil and several family members, including his eldest brother Jasni, were again given confirmation from the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters that the DNA test was conclusive and even the dental record from Nurin's school showed a 95% probability match.
Although 33-year-old Jazimin has finally accepted the facts presented by the police, he is pleading for the authorities to find the culprit and bring justice to his daughter.
The family, including mother Norazian Bistamin, aged 35, and sisters Jazshira, aged 9, Jazrina, aged 6 and 18-month-old Jazlisa, claimed Nurin's body from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary at 11:20am yesterday. She was buried at the Danau Kota Muslim burial ground in Setapak at 2:25pm.
Meanwhile, Federal CID director Commissioner Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee said police are looking carefully into the two separate cases of young girls who were abducted and molested in Kampung Baru a few months ago, which they suspect are linked to Nurin's murder suspect. A man on a motorcycle was seen taking the girls away before their private parts were stuffed with foreign objects. They were later released by the suspect.
Using the closed circuit television footage from a book centre along PJS 1/48 in Petaling Jaya Utama, police now have a good description on the suspect, a man who was getting off from a motorcycle and walking with a sports bag towards the staircase where Nurin's body was found. The couple who left in a silver Perodua Kenari are also wanted by the police.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said police would also consider if Nurin's parents had been negligent in letting her visit the night market alone on 20 August 2007. They may face charges under the Child Protection Act 2001 if evidence is found.
Musa also said police had increased patrols in several areas in the city, including Chow Kit, Kampung Baru and Masjid India.
At a press conference at the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) office on Saturday, Social Action Initiative Foundation executive deputy chairman Tan Sri Robert Phang offered RM5,000 to anyone who can provide information on Nurin Jazlin Jazimin's murderer.
Please contact the MCPF at 03-22601954 if you have such relevant information.
Datuk Michael Chong from the MCA Public Complaints and Services Department said that the RM20,000 cash reward still stands as long as Nurin's murderer is yet to be found. If you have information that will lead to the arrest of the murderer, please call Chong's assistant Mohd Ubaydi Mohd Noh at 016-636 7333.

Indonesian Journalist Assaulted and Raped by Indonesian Worker
22 September 2007
Kuala Lumpur
A 34-year-old Indonesian magazine journalist who was in the country on assignment to report on allegations of abuse and exploitation of Indonesian workers was assaulted and raped on Monday by a man, believed to be also Indonesian.
The suspect had tricked her into thinking that he could help her obtain information for her report. He had lured her into a kongsi at a construction site in Liman Kati, Kuala Kangsar. Acting on a tip-off, police stormed the place, rescued the journalist and arrested the 57-year-old contract worker.
Police said that the suspect had identity and travel documents bearing three different names. The suspect will be remanded by police until Tuesday.
The journalist suffered bruises on her face as she was hit with a wooden ash-tray. She was treated at the Kuala Kangsar Hospital and is now seeking refuge at the Indonesian consulate in Penang.
It is believed that the journalist, who works with a magazine in North Kalimantan, had planned to go undercover to collect information on the condition of Indonesian workers in Malaysia.

Nurin's Parents Could Not Accept DNA Test, Police Closing in on Suspect
21 September 2007
Kuala Lmpur
Police are looking for a couple who left the scene where the body of 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin was found. They were recorded by a closed circuit camera in a silver Perodua Kenari. The woman is likely a Malay in her 20s, while the driver is in his 20s.
Witnesses said they saw the woman sitting near the staircase with the bag containing the body of the girl on Sunday afternoon.
Police also have reason to believe that the suspects are involved in two cases of abduction and sexual abuse of two young girls in Kampung Baru months ago.
Nurin's parents have disagreed that the body was not their daughter and thus, a second DNA test will be carried out to confirm the victim's identity. Police will take samples from Nurin's elder sister, Nurin Jazshira. The first DNA test results were released by the Forensics Department at 2pm yesterday.
Nurin's father, 33-year-old Jazimin Abdul Jalil said that Nurin had straight hair, small teeth and a scar on her thigh, while this victim had curly and short hair, big teeth and no scar. Jazimin and his 35-year-old wife, Norazian Bistaman were at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary yesterday to identify the body.
Jazimin's siblings were also present to help identify the body who all agreed with him that the body was not their niece.
Police would also refer to doctors on the missing BCG mark on the body to determine if she was a Malaysian. They have also indicated that they will be arresting a male suspect but did not say if he is a foreigner.

Naked Body of Girl in Bag: Main Suspect a Woman, Victim's Identity is Nurin Jazlin Jazimin
20 September 2007
Petaling Jaya
Several witnesses have informed the police that a day before the young girl's naked body was discovered in Petaling Jaya Utama, they had seen a Malay-looking woman in her 20s sitting at the staircase there. The woman was described to have brown skin, straight hair, of medium built and between 155cm and 150cm tall.
Witnesses saw her on Sunday at 1pm with a Diadora branded gym bag where the body was found while they were walking up the three-storey shop lot. She was wearing a red T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
Some hours later, the witnesses left their office and saw that the bag was left at the bottom of the staircase but did not touch it.
The woman was also spotted on the closed circuit television video that was recording from a nearby building. In the tape, she was shown getting into a silver Perodua Kenari which was being driven by someone else.
In a significant turn of events, police have confirmed from DNA tests that the girl was indeed 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin who was missing since August. Nurin's parents have been informed of this news this afternoon.
Nurin was reported missing on 20 August 2007 after she had went to a night market at Section 1 in Wangsa Maju. The Standard Two pupil of Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Desa Setapak was seen resisting a van driver who forced her into the van.
Nurin's father Jazimin Abdul Jalil still denies that this body is his daughter as he knows that Nurin's teeth did not have gaps between them and she also had a scar on her thigh.
